HVDC Converters

The use of HVDC systems is in constant evolution for long distance high voltage electric lines. The reduction of electric losses and its competitive cost in terms of infrastructure, installation and maintenance are some of its numerous advantages. To name others, HVDC systems do not require frequency regulations nor reactive power compensations. Medium and high voltage capacitors are used to perform voltage compensation, high frequency filtering and indirectly to strengthen the circuit breakers capability. Our capacitors (or more sophisticated systems including resistors) for HVDC systems are mainly designed for 3 applications : Filtering, DC Bypass and Thyristor Valve whose specifications are described in the sections below.
